After reading the positive Yelp! reviews, Hubby and I decided to carryout sushi from Kiku over the weekend. We're more traditionalists when it comes to sushi - we like our nigiri and simple rolls, and Kiku did not let us down. The Key West roll and Kiku roll were our favorites, but all of the fish and veggies were fresh and tasty, and the spicy rolls had a perfect kick to them. We had happy bellies full of sushi and all was right with the world. Based on the aforementioned, Kiku ranks in our top 3 favorite sushi restaurants after only one meal. But our next visit, we'll definitely eat in the dining room to sample some of the inventive dishes on the kitchen-prepared menu.

Very good, fresh sushi. The chefs often have some amazing special presentations which aren't on the the menu. A hidden menu gem is their filet mignon from the kitchen menu, absolutely awesome!

Good but not great. Average menu of sushi, not a very wide selection. My daughter had the steak which was very good. It was walking distance from our hotel so we gave it a try. Overall, it was fine. I was hoping for a "We are 100' from the beach so this is going to be awesome sushi" but we got decent sushi very similar to what I get in Kansas.

Pretty standard japanese/sushi restaurant that happens to be located right off Mandalay Blvd. Nice dark decor that is great for dates because you feel like there's no one else really around except your own party. Very simple sushi menu offering only the most basic of selections. Nothing really unique about the rolls :( Presentation is gorgeous and fish is very fresh. Prices are fairly normal if not just slightly on the high side. Maybe the other regular menu items are a better draw? Depending on how much you eat/drink, look to spend approx $15-40.

My problem with Kiku's isn't their food, it's actually very good food. The sushi is very fresh and well prepared. Probably the second best sushi joint in Clearwater. My problem with this place is the SERVICE. I've been coming here for YEARS at occasions few and far between, because each time I've gone there I've had such an AWEFUL experience with the service that I tell myself I'm never going there ever again. They are just so SLOW. I've had three different times going there that it took over an hour to make our food. I just don't understand how they can be so slow...

Dark and dim lighting. Not what you'd expect for a mid level sushi joint at Clearwater Beach. Came at lunch for the lunch special(2 rolls for $9.95) and I was told that due to my roll selection, I would be paying $1 extra and that my menu was just old. Seriously, that's terrible service. Sushi was decent but a very small selection. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Awesome sushi. The Sashimi was very fresh. Try the Godzilla roll. Great food at reasonable prices. Good wine selection as well as a full bar. A little tricky to find as its on the second floor of a small shopping ares but well worth it.

Maybe the best rolls I've ever had.

Sushi is a favorite of mine so I try just about every sushi place I can find. Considering that, there are much better places with less expensive food nearby. The sushi and sashimi was yummy. However you don't get much for the price. We had multiple rolls all of which were prepared nicely and creatively. Chiefs did a great job. Increasing portion and improving customer service would increase my rating.

I'm a sushi connoisseur & they have the freshest salmon. Im getting hungry thinking about how tender and rich their selection is. Definitely a great protein stop after the gym!

Quality control time.... Sushi, I'm quite unreasonable about. It's raw. It's fish. If you're too lazy to keep the different fish on different plates in the refrigerated display, or use something higher quality than a disposable ziplock box for the spicy tuna - you shouldn't be dealing with raw fish. The sushi chef is even Japanese, I asked him in Japanese. Anyway, I won't come back and advise people to watch the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi"

Really?!?! Some people actually gave this place 5 stars? LMAO. That's the problem with Yelp. The fact that this place received 5 stars from anybody mystifies me. Pros: Location - if this place were in a different location, it would have gone away long ago. If you put this so called sushi bar in a sushi hip city such as San Diego or NYC, it would flop around like a dying codfish on a dirty New Jersey beach. The Ocean Roll is the only other pro I can come up with for this place, although at $14.95 for a roll filled with fake "krab" and topped with tiny slivers of tuna, the actual taste is the only positive here. Cons: where do I begin,,, Tiny, lethargic pieces of sushi. This would have been a total joke in any of our usual sushi haunts (Harney in SD or Tazu in Denver) Pathetic service (no water refill, ever, during the whole meal and water was my ONLY drink; our order was incomplete; a major portion of our order never was made by the sushi chefs. We sat at the sushi bar for god sakes. The sashimi appetizer was 40% of our order and they just overlooked it I guess, although you can bet it was on our check. When I finally flagged down the inattentive wait staff, and received my check, I had to let her know that it never came so she could take it off the bill (Another 15 minute wait for them to correct it and take it off of the check). If anyone had ever, once came to check on us, we would have told them about it. The sushi chefs never acknowledged our presence. When we were seated, they never even looked at us. I thought this was odd after eating at probably 200 sushi bars all over the US and Canada. One was Korean and the other looked Peruvian or South American to me. I put the sushi list on top of the sushi bar after we ordered. The older korean guy looked at it and summoned the waiter over after he had nonchalantly pitched it back to the other side of the bar and almost onto the floor. Lol. Waaayyyy overpriced for the quality and quantity. The fish wasn't bad in flavor, but itty bitty slivers of fish and fake crab, or rather "Krab" don't justify $6 for an order of tuna and $4.65 for a tiny order of salmon. YOU CAN DO WAY BETTER SOMEWHERE ELSE. -E The Genius

If I could give this place zero stars I would we ordered our food and were the only customers in the restaurant and 30 minutes later they hadn't even started making our food please spend your 50 plus dollars somewhere else!

We recently dined here while on vacation. My wife and I had the sushi for 2 while my daughter had the boolgogi entrée. Pros: - Location - Decent sushi Cons: - Terrible for kids, no kids menu, no apple juice, no orange juice, no milk - The sushi part of our meal was actually ok. The 2 specialty rolls (godzilla roll, crunchy eel roll) were aweful. The godzilla roll is fried so that the tuna ends up cooked....yuck. - Like others have said the service is aweful. They seem to just not care.....and oh, we did get a refill of our water.... when we were paying the bill.

Went here with a large group including children - service was very accommodating. Had the chirashi entree- surprisingly delicious! Enjoyed the meal. Restaurant is located on the upper level of the commercial plaza-did not see an obvious elevator so call ahead to inquire about any options if you have trouble with stairs. Otherwise you need to use a long staircase to access the upper level entrance of the restaurant.

Being the only sushi place I know that's on the beach it already gets the best stars. This place looks pretty secretive on the outside because there are no indications that it's sushi restaurant or even a restaurant at all. The food is good though, the prices? I can't seem to remember if it was pricey or not but I guess when is good sushi ever cheap? If you're looking for sushi and you're on Clearwater beach this is the place to go. I've gotten sushi to go from here no problem and I've sat down and had my dinners here before. It's a pretty standard Japanese/ Sushi restaurant. There's not much that's too impressive but they are the only place you can get sushi on the beach~

The sushi was amazing. I highly recommend the Mt Fuji roll. The service was stellar. Our server had our drinks refilled before the last sip. The atmosphere was nice. Highly recommend!

This is the worst sushi restaurant I have been to. the food is mediocre, the plates are greasy, and my daughter got food poison. Think twice before you go there.

Great fish, the maguro melted in my mouth. The staff was super friendly and seemed to be having a good time. I would definitely come back!

So, I'm going for 3 stars due to the fact that the sushi I ordered was delicious. I'd go back just for that. However, those two empty stars are a real story. My wife ordered the bento box at 12:30and they serve lunch until 2 o'clock. The waitress informed her that they had just sold the last chicken they had cooked and couldn't cook anymore. It doesn't take an hour and a half to fix chicken, people. So anyhow, my wife just orders a California roll, and I got the 2 roll lunch with a couple of simple rolls. No sauce, nothing fancy. An hour later, we got our three small rolls. One. Whole. Hour. Unbelievable. I don't like to complain about service much, but seriously? I was late for a meeting because of the absurdity of our wait. Good food, pretty bad service.

The first time I ate here it was pretty good. Over priced but ok. Tonight I took a friend and it was terrible! The sushi menu was very very limited. They had no children's menu and when we agreed on an appetizer with rice I was charged an additional $2.00 for the rice? ! I was also charged additional for eel sauce. Never paid for eel sauce??! The sushi had very little fish, the slices were tiny and feel apart. All of the food was way over priced and the quality just was not there, not tonight. I will not be returning.

We have enjoyed sushi here many times, but tonight was a disaster - the party table was raucous and unpleasantly loud, and ruined our evening. Management did nothing to quiet things down. For a peaceful dinner, try someplace else.

Made reservations for six on a Tuesday night. The service was ok but the place was pretty empty and it was clear they did not want us to stay late. The sushi was good, not great and the other dishes were nothing special. No beer on tap. Probably would not visit this place again if I had the chance.

Agree with the previous poster about the sushi itself - I'd give it a strong "B" for overall quality and presentation. Nothing super special but more than adequate, especially without many other options in the immediate area. The atmosphere was very pleasing and the staff were very pleasant and attentive. We sat at the sushi bar itself and found the sushi chefs to be very pleasant as well. Tucked away and overall a very nice experience.

Stayed in Clearwater Beach about 2 years ago and this is the one place that stands out in my mind the most. The sushi was soo fresh and good. The inside is small but cute. This was probably the only restaurant I enjoyed that was walking distance from our hotel. We stayed about a week and went to Kiku's twice.

People who have read some of my prior reviews know that I am big on good food - not Obesity Food like hamburgers, pizza, and hot dogs. Me talking about Real Grub. So if you think burger and fries is worth yelping about, no point reading any further. Prolly better to go and join Weight Watchers or start P90X. Now on with the review. I know people from the New England area are big on their seafood, especially lobster. I am not a New Englander, but having spent the first five months of 2010 in the NE region, I've gotten accustomed to eating lobster at least once or twice a week. Currently I am in Maine and have pretty much made the rounds at all the fine dining joints there. The lobster mac n cheese at Five fifty five? Done. Street and Co's Lobster Diavolo. - check. Bunch of other places too - Bresca, Hugo, etc. Oui, Si, and Da. I don't want to sound like a snob, saying that I had reached the point where I had gotten sick of lobster, but the crustacean's charm had waned on me a bit. So imagine my surprise when I ended up having an amazing lobster dish at Kiku. The dish was lobster with Yuju sauce, a spicy chili concotion. complimented by oyster mushrooms, with carrots and cucumbers and rice on the side. A large, fresh lobster tail dish for $20 bucks - now that's a hot deal. I also tried the "Kampachi New Style Sashimi," which was very fresh as well. The chef adds a unique twist to this sashimi and is must try. The Hiyashi Seaweed Salad and special dumplings were also delicious and balanced out the meal nicely. I was a bit underwhelmed by the sushi, which was good but for the most part not outstanding. When you go there, make sure you head to the second level of the building because the lower level is vacant - you may get the mistaken impression that Kiku is closed. The outer facade area of Kiku is not the most becoming, but the interior is very nicely decorated with some KEWL art and memorabilia from Japan. I was probably one of the best dressed people there in my ridiculously awesome-looking Egyptian-cotton Burberry short-sleeve polo, and Cole Haan sandals. Only down side of the dinner was my friend did not look anywhere as good as I did, but i've asked him to work on it. Cuz if you wanna hang with me, SWANK is what you gotta be. LOLLLLLL

Tasty food, good service, friendly staff, good atmosphere. Food was a bit spicy for my liking. We also arrived a bit late as the kitchen closed at 9:45 on a weekday. So, we didn't get to enjoy the menu as we would have liked.

Here is the run down: Good- tempura prawn and ahi tuna with chips were excellent. Most of the regular menu looked pretty good Bad- Service was horrible (borderline unbearable), Sushi was not fresh and tasted old Overall, it was an okay experience. Will not be returning

Great sushi Rather pricey, but bearably so. Nice and clean, dark inside. Ideal for going on a date and slipping on some evening wear.. Cute place, great food, alright prices. Give it a try!

I have been to every sushi place around the area and kiku's is still the best. Yes it's a little slow but the wait is worth it everything is excellent food is amazing.

Well...since my friend and I both love to eat sushi, we come here when we come to the beach. I have been here twice and on both occasions the sushi has always been very good. I just wish that I could say the same thing about their service. It has always been poor. They never pre-bus the tables, not so good about seeing if you needed a refill on your drink and it seems to take forever to get your food. But, we come here for the sushi anyways. So if your in a hurry, I would suggest you go elsewhere because you will be here a while. If it wasnt for the food, I would give it only 2 stars and that's it
